Prof. Simon de Lusignan, General Practitioner and Professor at the University of Surrey presented an example from the UK, during the SECA meeting. His team has developed the Audit Based Education tool, as part of the Primary Care Data Quality program. Here is his message about the relationship between clinical audit and improving the delivery of health care.
Clinical audits encourage doctors to get more involved in developing quality and promoting the best possible practices in health care. However, doctors are really busy. The success of PCDQ project [Primary Care Data Quality] is due to the fact that it facilitates the process of clinical audit to physicians - focusing on more efficient data recording and quality improvement. The commitment to quality improvement using the technology for this purpose is most important. All of us General Practitioners should value our records and the potential development of tools to improve quality of care.
